You win. You lose. You return to the centre. You kick off again. The clock starts at zero as if the last ninety minutes did not rearrange your week.
Is that like a life?
Only if you are careful.
A life is not a league table. You do not get unlimited fixtures. When time is up, you do not automatically get another kickoff in the same body. The metaphor breaks — and the break is the lesson.
What football trains, when it is healthy, is recovery without amnesia. You remember the miss. You still take the next touch. You do not pretend the miss never happened. You also do not live inside it until the stadium empties.
That is closer to a good Tuesday than most self-help.
The dangerous version is the opposite. Play since you were five. Become so fluent in the game that you never learn a second language for living. Then the career ends, or the body fails, or the night gets louder than the training ground. Maradona’s ending is the extreme of that pattern: genius without a thick enough education outside the pitch. Philosophically, every restart at the centre is a claim about time. The past is real. The next play is still available. That is not endless reincarnation. That is finite courage with a whistle.
